| Roger Clemens say it isn't so. | | There are not too many people that I admire in baseball... the ones that stay with teams for their whole careers... cal ripken and Tony Gwynn in my time. But another person that I always was able to relate to in a way was roger clemens much like nolan ryan.I can't believe he has intentionally taken steroids and if he did I can't even think of what the consequences would be... what is your take on this story? | |
| | When is a person really "Famous"? | | I don't think "famous" is just about being well known. After living in 11 US States, 4 countries and being active in online communities for 8 years, it could be said that I'm known "worldwide"... but I'm far from famous.I can think of professionals who are well-known within their circles, but aside from their little subculture, they are all but non existant. So what is the difference between "well known" and "famous".To me it's when you have broken out of your little circle. When even those who aren't into what you do know who you are.I doubt I've ever purposely listened to more than one rap song... but I know who Eminem, Tupac and Run DMC are. I am not a sports fan, but I can recognize Tiger Woods, Michael Jordon and Nolan Ryan's faces. I don't watch Soap Operas, but can tell you that Susan Lucci starred in one for decades. To me, that's fame. | |
| | Why Hockey Sucks | | Ernest Hemingway had some peculiar ideas about what qualified as a sport. He said something to the effect that the only true sports were bullfighting and auto racing. I think there might have been a third one and I forget what it is but it might as well have been shotgun-barrel-eating because that turned out to be the only thing Poppa Bear was ever really and good at. Some might say he could right, but come on, have you read The Sun Also Rises? I have and trust me when I tell you as a writer E.H. was a great big-game hunter. My point is ol’ Ernie had some strange ideas about sports.A lot of people have some strange ideas about sports. Some people still try to convince us that golf is a sport. I’m sorry but any sport where John Daly can do well is not really a sport. The man is a known alcoholic and weighs roughly 81/2 tons. Sure, I enjoy watching Tiger Woods, but I still don’t think of it as a sport. It involves way too much walking. Does it take skill? Sure, but so does table tennis, Scrabble, Monopoly and Chess. Golf is a game and until they allow either land mines on the greens or tackling of your opponent that is going to remain my opinion thank you very... | |
| | Will you be my Grandpa? | | My Grandpa has recently passed away, and I'm going to miss his adamant comments about how MLB has changed for the worse. I ask that anybody over the age of 60 offers their sentiments or explanations as to the drastic change we've witnessed in terms of talent, work ethic, compensation, etc. regarding the pitchers of yore and those that compete today. What happened to the warriors or the no-nonsense attitude that the likes of Fergie Jenkins, Warren Spahn, or Nolan Ryan displayed? Why are pitchers like Mark Prior (the bane of the Chicago Cubs organization) and Kerry Wood so fragile? What's up with pitch count limitations? | |
